Linda Diane Petty (Thornbrue), 77, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2026, in Ammon, Idaho.
Born on November 5, 1948, in Portland, Oregon. Linda was the daughter of Howard Raymond Thornbrue and Evelyn Viola Writer. She grew up in a loving home that instilled in her the values of kindness, faith, and family—principles she carried with her throughout her life.
Linda was a devoted wife to Dr. Wendell Eugene Petty and a beloved mother to five children: Christina Rae Amonson (Nick), Joshua Michael Petty (Kristi), Caryn Elise Marlowe (Phillip), Daniel Adam Petty (Kimberly), and David Aaron Petty (Brenda). Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to her siblings—Steve Thornbrue (Lori), Karen Clark (Gary), Mary Pond (Louis), and Rhonda Holman (Paul)—with whom she shared deep bonds of love and support.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Linda dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her callings. She particularly enjoyed her callings serving with the Young Women, where with a natural grace and an open heart, she dedicated herself to empowering young women, helping them find their own voices and strengths. Her commitment to this calling transcended beyond Sunday and Thursday activities, resulting in deep, enduring friendships that spanned decades. Whether teaching gospel lessons or offering quiet encouragement to those around her, she served with humility and compassion. Her testimony of the Savior was deeply rooted and often shared in heartfelt conversations with loved ones. She had a gift for helping others see how gospel truths could guide them through not only life’s challenges, but also everyday situations.
Linda created a home filled with warmth and love—a place where all who entered felt welcome. Though she may not have relished the stress leading up to family gatherings, she cherished every moment spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and siblings. Her home was a sanctuary of love, peace, and joy.
She had a deep love for nature and animals. An avid gardener, Linda cultivated beautiful roses that brought color and fragrance to her home. She cared for many cats over the years and found joy in horseback riding through nearby mountain trails. Her connection to the natural world reflected her gentle heart.
She was a lifelong student of the written arts, finding peace in the quiet discipline of calligraphy and the expressive power of poetry. Her work was a reflection of her inner life—thoughtful, precise, and vibrantly creative.
Linda also had a passion for reading. She was well-versed in scripture and enjoyed exploring both historical works and fiction—from thrilling tales by Archer to lighthearted beach reads. Her intellectual curiosity enriched her conversations and deepened her understanding of the world around her.
To those who knew her, Linda was kind-hearted, thoughtful, and full of quiet strength. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched—with every rose that blooms in springtime gardens, every story shared among family members gathered together, and every act of quiet service inspired by her example.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
