Lorin Paul Bate, 60, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 8, 1948, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Harvey Earl Bate and Nellie Virginia Chambers Bate. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls. In 1966, he graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University, and Michigan State.

On July 17, 1990 he married Linda Lee Gardner (Cowger) in Idaho Falls. Besides Idaho Falls, he lived in Panama Central America; Okinawa, Japan; and Phoenix, Arizona.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and among the callings he held were ward clerk, executive secretary, Sunday school teacher, High Priest group leader, Primary worker and home teacher. As a young man, he served a church mission to the Southern States Mission.

He enjoyed reading, watching movies, family activities, and traveling.

Lorin's infectious laugh, friendly smile, and big heart endeared him to everyone he met; he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bate of Idaho Falls; daughters: Marcela Bate and Marissa Bate both of Idaho Falls; Christy (Joe) Readon of Concord, New Hampshire; and Camille Cowger of Pocatello; step-daughter, Cathi (Brett) Johnson of Idaho Falls; son, Matthew (Rachel) Cowger of Idaho Falls;mother, Nellie Bate of Idaho Falls; a brother, Terry (Ginger) Bate of Rock Springs, Wyoming; a sister, Jenny (Gary) Betts of Helena, Montana; and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Earl Bate.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008, at the Idaho Falls LDS 32nd LDS ward chapel, 1155 First St. with Bishop Lynn Omanson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Coltrin Mortuary. 2100 First St., Idaho Falls and Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
