IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine Jensen
Brown
January 11, 1932 – May 30, 2025
Lorraine Jensen Brown was born on January 11, 1932, to Hyrum Leo Jensen and Ivie Page Jensen in Taylor, Idaho. Lorraine often said that she came from a happy, secure, and loving home. She always felt the love that her parents had for each other and their children.
Lorraine spent her early years living and working on the family farm. It was during the Great Depression years that she learned the value of a dollar and the hard work of a farm. When Lorraine started school, her social world expanded. She attended Fairview School, where she had grades 1 through 8 in only three classrooms. New friends gravitated to her warm, friendly face and welcoming demeanor. Throughout her life, Lorraine was constantly adding new friends.
Lorraine attended Ucon High School and participated in the Glee Club and Thespian Club. While there, she honed her singing and theatrical skills and continued to use them throughout her life to entertain friends, family, and especially the grandchildren. While at Ucon High School, she met Keith Brown. Lorraine and Keith dated throughout high school and continued dating while they both attended Ricks College. Lorraine continued to shine, winning several speech contests and being crowned as Homecoming Queen while at Ricks. However, she considered Keith to be her greatest asset and always said she felt her stature improved when she was on his arm. They made a dashing couple, the Homecoming Queen and Star Athlete. Keith and Lorraine married on June 22, 1952, in the Idaho Falls Temple.
During their early married life, Keith and Lorraine lived in Idaho Falls and welcomed their first son, Scott, and a few years later, they welcomed their second son, Rodney. This young family then built their first home in Ammon and added a daughter, Julie, to their family. They enjoyed the outdoors and spent their summers camping and fishing, and their winters ice skating.
In 1969, Keith and Lorraine started building a new Ammon home on Ross Avenue. Keith did much of the work himself, and most evenings he could be found working on their new home. Lorraine and the children would often deliver dinner to Keith, which always included an ice-cold Pepsi. Soon after their new home was completed, they were surprised by the addition of a third son, Derek.
Lorraine was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church callings, including Relief Society President and Primary President. She loved working with children and taught private kindergarten before kindergarten was added to the public school system. Keith built a school building behind their home where Lorraine taught many children throughout the years. So many of the Ammon youth were taught by Lorraine, with even a few instances of Lorraine teaching the youth's children!
In 2004, Keith and Lorraine moved to Meridian, Idaho, to be closer to family and the benefits of family support while Keith was dealing with the onset of cancer. Keith passed away in 2005, and Lorraine continued living in their Meridian home. She gained so many great friendships, and she felt the warmth of home with her new friends. Lorraine lived on her own until she was 91, when she moved to a care facility where she again gained some great friendships.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Scott (Janie) Brown of Draper, Utah, Rod (Pamela) Brown of Meridian, Idaho, Julie Hall (Dave English) of Meridian, Idaho, and Derek (Dawn) Brown of Sequim, Washington; thirteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Leon Jensen and Dell Jensen; her sister, Viva Hammer; her husband; and her son-in-law, Steve Hall.
