Obituary

Our beloved mother, Lou Jean Nielsen, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013, at her home. Lou Jean was born December 26, 1927 in Idaho Falls, the first child of Herbert W. Oswald and Donna Hancey. She was raised and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from I.F. High School in 1946. She married Chris Nielsen in 1953; they later divorced. Lou Jean's life was centered around her four children: Brent, Brenda, Keri, and Rick (deceased). She has 9 grandchildren, 3 great- grandchildren, and 2 on the way. In her young adult years, she developed life-long friends and memories while working at the original Paramount Theatre. Work then took her to the Rogers Hotel, Stardust Motel, and then after her family came along, she worked at Mortgage Insurance Corp. for 20 years, 14 of which she was manager. She had a lifelong love for music and dance. She loved bowling and won several events at nationals. She was proud to belong to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and loved her many friends. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many leadership positions in the Relief Society. Her greatest love was her family-children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, and close cousins. She especially loved all the many trips with her family. Her favorite place in the world was the cabin in Big Springs, Island Park where there were more than 80 years of family memories created. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Idaho Falls LDS Church on the corner of Sunnyside and Holmes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. There will also be a remembrance gathering for family and friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at the South Park Gazebo in Idaho Falls, just south of the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho, on South Capital, a half block south of Capital and Broadway. She is survived by the following: Son, Brent Nielsen of Idaho Falls; Daughter, Brenda (Mark) Rindlesbach of Salt Lake; Daughter, Keri (John) Farnes of Wenatchee, Washington; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters: Deanna Rasmussen of Ogden, Linda (Dale) Shearer of Idaho Falls, and Jan Hillman of Sacramento. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Karen Garoutte; son, Richard Nielsen; and grand-daughter, Katie Jean.
