Louis August Weinrich was born in Floral Park, New York on August 2nd, 1930 to August Louis Weinrich and Mildred Florence Bairley Weinrich. Lou passed away, July 23rd, six days shy of his 83rd birthday at the Life Care Center as a consequence of age. He was raised in Floral Park and shared fond memories of his time playing at the racetrack woods near the Belmont racetrack where he built forts and practiced archery. Although he struggled with dyslexia, he earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 1952 from Hofstra. He later earned his Masters degree in Chemistry, at Oklahoma A&M where he met and married Carmelita Zelma Tinker. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He settled in Idaho Falls in 1965 and worked at the INL as a radial chemist while raising three sons. He was later divorced. Lou married Senia Parker in 1990 and enjoyed a life of square dancing with the Jolly Mixers, gardening, travel, camping, hiking and puttering on hundreds of projects. In 1993, Lou retired from the INL after almost 30 years as a Chemist. With a sharp and analytic mind, he loved to build and create. During retirement, Lou enjoyed many hours of reading and loved his years of tinkering at his son's shop, Rods Automotive. He continued his passion for square dancing. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in several callings. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his great wealth of knowledge and his love for dogs from Rowdy to Shadow. He is survived by his widow, Senia Weinrich, his sons Mark and Lucy Weinrich, Greg and Donna Weinrich, Dan and Rita Weinrich, Idaho Falls, his step-children, Joe and Sarah Parker, Bryce and Trudy Parker, Kevin and Lisa Arrington and Nathon and Vielane Van Noy. Lou had 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and by one grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Internment will be at the Ammon Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
