Obituary

Lucille Katherine Young Wessel, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Lily and Syringa Assisted Living Center. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. Lucille was born January 4, 1926, in Verona, Missouri, to John Andrew and Katherine Annesser Young. She was the youngest of seven children including brothers: Andrew, Edmond, and Raymond, and sisters: Marie, Irene and her twin sister, Louise. In 1939, she moved with her family to Shelley, Idaho, and graduated from Shelley High School in 1944. On November 4, 1944, she married Ivan L. Wessel in Idaho Falls. They farmed for several years in the Idaho Falls and Blackfoot areas. In 1959, they moved to Idaho Falls, where Lucille continued her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Sacred Heart hospital, retiring after 35 years. Lucille enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, fishing, doing ceramics, playing pinochle, and traveling. Until her health started to fail, she was an active member of the Idaho Falls VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her sons: Ralph (Susan) Wessel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Carl (Jane) Wessel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughters: Sandra Dingman, Teresa Wessel, and Pat Miller all of Idaho Falls; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Louise Keller of Moore, Idaho, and her sister-in-law, Luella Young of Mebane, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons: John, Joseph, and Craig; her brothers: Andrew, Edmond, and Raymond Young; her sisters: Marie Short and Irene Donaldson, a great-grandson, Zachary Smith, and a son-in-law, Harold E. Miller. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Lily and Syringa Assisted Living and Hands of Hope for their dedicated and loving care of our mother. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 9th and Lee, with Father Raul Covarrubias officiating. The Vigil Services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls and the family will receive friends following the Vigil Service until 8 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
