Obituary

Lyman E. Curtis, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 24, 1927, to Leo Curtis and Alma Hendrickson Curtis. He grew up in Sugar City and Tetonia. He graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1944. For 23 years, Lyman served in the Navy, Army and Air Force, from 1944 to 1967. He was an active member of the Bonneville County Veterans Team. He worked in the post office for 25 years. In 1956, he married Jeannie Newsham, and they were later divorced. On Nov. 11, 1993, he married Rita Beard. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lyman enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping and four-wheeling. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and they will greatly miss him. Lyman is survived by his wife, Rita Curtis of Idaho Falls; daughters, Tammy Lee and Barbara Hayes, both of Idaho Falls, and Sandy (Boyd) Galbraith of Rigby; 22 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ardis Stevens; and a brother, George Curtis. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Idaho Falls LDS 10th Ward Chapel, 1200 Dunbar Drive in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Jack Klein officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls, and for one hour Tuesday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rights by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
