Mervin "Ben" Benjamin Hymas, 91, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at The Gardens Senior Living in Rigby, Idaho. Ben was born December 25, 1918, in Preston, Idaho, the son of Newel Hymas and Annie Panter Hymas. He grew up in the Teton Basin and Iona and graduated from Iona High School. Ben served in Germany during World War II with the U.S. Army. On January 23, 1937, he married Rachel Emily Eggleston in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Rachel passed away Dec. 12, 1970. In 1971, Ben married Zelda Cook in Idaho Falls. She passed away June 26, 2006. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ben and Zelda served a mission together to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Mission. Ben's hobbies included carpentry and doing service for his family, friends, and community. He is survived by a son, Richard K. (Betty) Hymas of Everett, Washington; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Hymas of Caldwell, Idaho; 2 step-daughters: Janae Perry of Glenns Ferry, Idaho, and Loralee (Don) Center of Denver, Colorado; 2 step-sons: Richard C. (Tonia) Cook of Idaho Falls and Rulan J. (Kathy Jo) Cook of Rigby; 2 sisters: Ruth Taylor of Grant, Idaho, and Carol Staniger of Springdale, Arkansas; and many grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel and his wife, Zelda; an infant daughter, Caroline Hymas; a son, Jerry Hymas, and a brother, Ray Hymas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary and one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Annis-Little Butte Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
