Helene was born in Mackay, Idaho on August 04, 1929 to Chester and Nettie Finley. She attended schools in Shelley, Pocatello and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She married George W. Smith in 1948; they had four children, Wade, Kris, Becky and Jeff. They were later divorced. Helene was a devoted mother and received help in raising her children from her loving parents.

Helene worked at Scott's Stationary in Idaho Falls while attending Bookkeeping classes at night. She then worked at the Idaho Falls Public Library as Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper until her retirement. She was very proud of the new library when it opened in its present location.

Helene was an avid reader and was an extremely talented knitter. With her daughter Becky, she attended many dog shows around the northwest and loved to travel. She had a great fondness for all animals.

Her greatest love were her 5 grand-children, sleepovers were their favorite time to spend with Grandma. She would let them have their way all the time.

Helene is survived by her three sons: Wade (Kim), Kris (Jane) and Jeff (Korby) all of Idaho Falls, her sister Carla (Jay) Griggs, five grand-children, Charity (Brian) Huff, Dixie (Joe) Weber, Courtney (Tyson) Sibbitts, James Smith and Gary (Nicole) Smith. She is also survived by her Great Grand-children: Trenton, Sarah Helene, Henry, Cohen and Benjamin.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Becky Smith, brother N.B. (Bill) Finley and her parents.

Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., in the Taylor Cemetery on April 4, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1810 Moran Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho, 83401.
