She was born August 15, 1929, in Malta, Idaho, to Samuel H. Shaw and Cordelia Nye Shaw. She grew up in Malta and when she was 4, the family moved to Burley. In 1947, she graduated from Burley High School. She earned a teaching certificate from Albion Normal School.

On October 27, 1950, she married C Jay Longhurst in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

While living in Blackfoot, she taught physical education classes in the middle school. She taught private kindergarten for 19 years in her home.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as a Relief Society President in both the ward and stake, and President of the Young Women's organization.

For many years, Marjorie was President of the EIRMC hospital auxiliary and secretary of the James E. Steele Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and doing counted cross stitch. She was known for making great pies. Marjorie was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; we will all surely miss her.
