Mark H. Nelson, husband to Valerie Skinner Nelson, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Mark was born on March 10, 1946, in Star Valley, Wyoming, to Max and Ada Nelson. He had 3 sisters: Adell, Maxine, and Deanna; 1 brother, Ellis; and 1 foster brother, Emery.

He attended Star Valley High School where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart and eternal companion, Valerie. They were married on January 24, 1964, and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 27, 1965. In that same year, they began their family of 9 children: Eric (Valeen) Nelson, Jim (Kristen) Nelson, Annette (Bart) Heiner, Brian (Amy) Nelson, Toni (Aaron) Blanscett, Rick (Sandy) Nelson, Fred (Mary) Nelson, Robert (Nesha) Nelson, and Jennifer (Frederic) Peters. He was a beloved grandfather to 40 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 8 with 3 more on the way.

Those who knew Mark knew of his love for the outdoors. Some of his favorite activities were horseback riding, hiking, hunting, motorcycles, ATV's…anything with the wind in his face.

Mark was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in many callings. One of the highlights of his life was serving 2 missions with his sweet wife. Mark had a great love and knowledge of our Savior. Through his strong testimony, he was able to help others find joy in Christ. He was happiest when he was serving others and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Riverside Ward, 955 Memorial. The Family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2021, and one hour prior to services both at the church. Cremation is under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
