Obituary

This week we mourn the loss of a dear friend and family member, Mark Charles Pettet (age 58), who died Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital. Though shocked by his sudden passing due to health complications, he is dearly remembered in the hearts of those he touched.

Mark was born on December 27, 1962, in Bozeman, Montana to Joseph Glenn Pettet and Ida May Burger Pettet. He was the youngest of six children. Mark displayed great resilience and strength by overcoming the early deaths of both his parents. He graduated from Park Senior High School in 1981 in Livingston, Montana. This is also where he met his eternal companion, Laura Lynn Huisenga in 1982. They were married in Bozeman, Montana, on August 17, 1985, and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 28, 2000. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage. Together they raised 4 beautiful children. Their time together was spent laboring side by side for the benefit of their home and family. The joy of his life was his six incredible grandchildren. He spent his days counting their fingers and toes, tickling them, and taking them on jeep rides. He was the world's greatest grandpa.

As a Bishop of the Iona 1st ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and talented engineer, Mark has served this community for more than two decades in many roles, from Boy Scout Leader to avid Jeep enthusiast. His Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering served him well in his job and also in nights spent at a kitchen table, helping with math homework.

Though he was strict and a perfectionist, those he chose to love knew it, as he poured every ounce of his heart and soul into serving them. A generous soul, he was always happy to work on cars that needed it, or with moving, or yard work, which allowed both his friends and family to assist, teaching them the meaning of hard work.

Mark is survived by his wife, Laura Pettet, and their children: Joshua Pettet, Melissa Grover, Tyler Pettet, and Jessica Pettet, their spouses, and his six grandchildren. Mark also left behind his six older siblings: Glenn Pettet, Linda Thorson, Karrie Schaal, Lorena Pettet, Cindy Cobbley, and Tom Jacobson along with their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida May (Burger) Pettet and Joseph Glenn Pettet.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Iona South Stake Center, 4440 E. High Grove Dr., with a graveside dedication, immediately following at the Ammon Cemetery. Immediate friends and family only due to COVID restrictions. Services will be broadcast live via Facebook.com/coltrinmortuary.
