Obituary

Marlen Kenneth Miller, 94, passed away on January 21, 2024, in Idaho Falls. Marlen was born on January 1, 1930, in Massillon, Ohio to Wilma Chapman Miller and John J. Miller.

He grew up in Bazetta, Ohio where he played high school sports and worked on neighboring farms. He graduated from Bazetta High School and attended Youngstown College where he met his fiancé, Myrna Crow.

Marlen was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and studied preventative medicine at the Medical Field Service School at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Marlen and Myrna were married in Fort Sam Houston's picturesque chapel in 1952. After serving two years in the army, Marlen attended Ohio State University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering.

He started his long career in the dairy industry in Oklahoma and managed production plants in Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, New York, and North Carolina. In 1962, he received a national award for product excellence for manufacturing Heath Candy Ice Cream Bars.

Marlen and Myrna raised two children.  He coached YMCA youth baseball, taught Sunday school, and attended his children's band and orchestra concerts. His favorite hobby was fishing. It didn't matter if he was fishing on a frozen lake in Minnesota or New York, or trolling the warm waters of Florida's Myakka River, he was happy to be on the water. When he retired, he and Myrna enjoyed raising orange trees, going on river and ocean cruises, taking dance lessons, and entertaining his children and their families.

He is survived by his daughter, Terry L. Miller of Jackson, Wyoming; his son, John S. Miller of Sinclairville, New York; his sister, Bonnie Benden of Niles, Ohio; two grandchildren: John K. Miller and Danielle Miller; and two great-grandchildren: Vincent and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna C. Miller; his brother, Merle W. Miller; and his parents, Wilma and John J. Miller.

Thank you to Fairwinds-Sand Creek Assisted Living staff and Solace Hospice for their kind and gentle care of Marlen.

No services will be held at this time. Cremation is under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
