IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marley G.
Sievers
September 14, 1924 – January 24, 2022
Marley G. Sievers, 97, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 24, 2022, in Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Marley was born September 14, 1924, in Ucon, Idaho to Leo Pope Sievers and Melba Nelson Sievers. He lived in the Coltman/Milo area while growing up, working on the family farm and other farms in the area with his dad and brothers.
He joined the U.S. Navy and was based on several battleships, serving in the Battle of Leyte Gulf during World War II. He served 2 -1/2 years overseas, stationed in Australia and the Philippines.
After arriving stateside on a 31-day leave, his sister suggested he visit one of the Bates girls to ask for a date. Emma happened to come into the room with a pretty ribbon in her hair, and that's all it took. He asked Emma out, and after 4 dates, he proposed. They were married July 31, 1945, in Bozeman Montana, just 11 short days after meeting. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple. They were blessed with six children. Emma passed away November 9, 2001.
He and Emma returned to Idaho Falls after being discharged from the Navy. He worked for various farmers and at the block plant for some time. Later, they moved to Pocatello, Idaho, joining his brother Francis in the masonry business. They returned to the Shelley/Idaho Falls area where he began Marley Sievers Masonry, building many churches, schools, and homes throughout Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Colorado. He taught his sons and grandsons the masonry business as well.
After retirement, he enjoyed the many visits from his children and grandchildren, telling them all his many stories growing up, and singing songs to them. He said they didn't have much, but they were rich with love and family.
Marley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as ward clerk, serving under five Bishops. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, and especially loved cruising around on his motorized scooter provided to him by the Vietnam Veterans Mobility Group from Ucon, Idaho.
We are blessed to call him Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Brother, and friend; he is a member of the greatest generation.
Marley is survived by his daughters: Alice (Wayne) Mortimer of Bluffdale, Utah, Marion Wettenbone of Denver, Colorado; sons: Asael (Sandy) Sievers of Idaho Falls, Arnold (Sunne) Sievers of Fort Hall, Idaho; sister, Jean Reinhold of Salem, Oregon; 29 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie; son, Altinas Wettenbone; 4 brothers and 1 sister.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers from Aspen Home Health and Hospice, especially Kara and Darcy. Marley enjoyed their visits. We also wish to thank the staff and caregivers at The Gables of Idaho Falls for their gentle care and kindness.
