Martha Kay "Marty" Piper, 86, of Idaho Falls, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2024, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community.

Marty, the oldest child of Ben and Edith Wormeli, was born on April 26, 1938, in Jacksonville, Illinois. She grew mostly up in the Midwest. After high school, she attended nursing school in Houston, Texas, and graduated in 1961.

On Sept 2, 1961, Marty married Tom Piper in Bryan, Texas. Soon after they moved to Urbana, Illinois where she started her nursing career as an RN. For the next five years, she worked in pediatrics while Tom earned his PhD in Physics. While in Urbana they had two sons, David and Bob. In 1966, Tom's career took them to Idaho Falls, where he spent 29 years working at the Idaho Nuclear Lab. Marty worked in the pediatric unit at EIRMC for 20 years. During this time, they had their third child, Jennifer. In 1986, Marty switched from working in pediatrics to the Behavioral Health Center. Marty finished her nursing career in 1999 working in the home health field. She and Tom spent their retirement years between Idaho Falls and Kingman, Arizona.

She loved traveling and playing Phase 10 with her grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family.

Marty is survived by her son, Bob; daughter, Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Sharon; grandchildren: Hannah, Josh, Tyler, Kati, and Skylar; and her sister Susan. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ben and Edith Wormeli; her husband of 59 years, Tom; son, David; and daughter-in-law, Julie.

"So, when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart."
