IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marva Dean
Barnes
April 26, 1938 – May 7, 2018
Marva Barnes 80, of Arco, Idaho passed away peacefully May 7, 2018, surrounded by family. She was under the compassionate care of Onesource Home Health and Hospice while fighting cancer.
Marva was born April 26, 1938, in Pingree, Idaho to Alfred (Alf) and Orissa Young. She was the sixth of eight children. She had four sisters and three brothers. She spent her childhood in Pingree going to the local schools. During that time, she worked at the school doing laundry to help meet the family's needs. When she was 17 years old she moved to Evanston Wyoming to work where she lived with extended family. During her time in Evanston she met her sweetheart Vernon Barnes whom she married in March of 1957. She and Vernon were blessed with two wonderful boys, Scott and Craig. Marva thought the world of her family and endeavored all her life to make sure they were happy, and their needs met.
She followed Vernon as he pursued his college education and various employment opportunities. Their travels took them to Laramie, Wyoming, Ogden, Utah, Pocatello and Blackfoot, Idaho and ultimately Arco, Idaho where they lived for 48 years. Marva was employed at several businesses doing various jobs throughout her life. Some of her jobs ranged from waiting tables in Evanston, administrative assistant and office manager at the Idaho National Lab, and several local businesses in Arco. She loved working with the students while she was employed as the Butte County Junior High School secretary. Her last job was at the Lost River Drug where she loved visiting with the good people of the community.
Marva was very caring and giving. She spent several years doing volunteer work with the American Red Cross. She helped locate military personnel when they needed to be notified of family illness or death, and eventually became involved in disaster relief. Her travels took her to several locations including floods in Northern and Southeast Idaho. Her last assignment with the Red Cross was at ground zero as part of the 9/11 response effort. Locally Marva was instrumental in getting new lights for the football field. She also served on the Lost River Hospital Auxiliary Board.
Marva was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in several callings throughout her life with one of her favorite being a compassionate service leader in the Arco Ward. This calling gave her several opportunities to do what she loved most, helping people.
Marva is survived by her husband; both sons: Scott (Teresa) Barnes of Menan, Idaho, Craig (Camila) of Falls Church, Virginia; a sister, Vera Young of Blackfoot, Idaho; eleven grandchildren, and nineteen, soon to be twenty great-grandchildren.
