Marva Kay Birch Oakey, 77, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015, at her home of natural causes. She was under the care of Alliance Hospice of Idaho Falls. She was born August 5, 1938, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the daughter of Kenneth Birch and Leona Gresham Birch. She grew up and attended schools in St. Anthony. In 1956, she graduated from South Fremont High School. She later became a licensed practical nurse. On June 22, 1956, she married Jerald Oakey in Wilford, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized June 27, 1964, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Shelley as well as Idaho Falls. Marva was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Relief Society President and as a primary teacher for the LDS special needs Primary. She is survived by her husband, Jerald Oakey of Idaho Falls; a son, Kevin (Joni) Oakey and a daughter, Tara Oakey both of Idaho Falls; 2 grandsons: Jay (Melissa) Oakey of Whitney, Texas, and Clark (Kelli) Oakey of Provo, Utah, 1 great-grandson and 1 great-granddaughter, and a brother, Keith (Susan) Birch of Driggs, Idaho. Marva was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenny Birch. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, at the Summerfield LDS Ward, 3721 Shadow Mountain Trail with Bishop Michael Griffin conducting. The family will visit friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls and Friday at the church one hour prior to the services.
