Obituary

Marva Davenport Rydalch, 88, passed away April 8, 2010, at her home in Idaho Falls. Marva was born December 1, 1921, in Heman, Idaho, to Ira Sperry Davenport and Harriet Housley Davenport. She was the fourth child out of eight children. She spent her childhood years in Heman where she graduated from the eighth grade in May 1935, as valedictorian and began her freshman year at Sugar-Salem High School. Her mother passed away in May of 1936. As the oldest girl in the family she assumed the role of caretaker for her siblings. In September 1936, her family moved to Salt Lake City. They commuted between Salt Lake City during the school years and Heman in the summer months for the remainder of her high school years. She graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in May 1939. Her parents always encouraged her to develop her talents. She had many of them. She learned to play the piano and organ. She also sang in trios with her sisters as well as the "Choral Tones" group from the Rexburg area. Later in her life she spent most of her free time on her passion, family history. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. In the winter of 1940, she met Nyal Hunter Rydalch. They were married May 20, 1941, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were blessed with three children. Esther LaVonne was born March 3, 1942, and died March 7, 1943. Richard Leon was born three days later on March 12, 1943. Christine was born May 14, 1944. She died December 17, of that same year. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the primary, MIA, Relief Society and as ward organist and chorister. In 1943, Nyal and Marva bought a farm in Edmunds, Idaho. They moved into their new unfinished home in 1951, where they worked hard to finish it. Nyal served as Farm Bureau president from 1963-1966, where they had the opportunity to travel extensively across the country. Marva supported her husband in the Farm Bureau by developing the community, serving as a 4-H leader and many other projects. Nyal and Marva were blessed to receive several mission calls in the LDS Church. On April 10, 1967, they were called to serve in the Scottish Mission. From 1970-1980, they served as temple officiators for the Idaho Falls Temple. From 1983-1984, they served as stake missionaries for the Alameda, Pocatello Stake. On November 21, 1990, they were called to serve in the Atlanta, Georgia Temple. Marva was preceded in death by her husband, Nyal; her parents; and brothers, Elmo, Cyril, Calvin and Merlin. Survivors include her son, Richard (Sandra) Rydalch; her sisters Donna Calapp, Beth Tietjen, Verba (Seth) Niebaur, and sister-in-law Helen Davenport; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to give a special Thank You to the Idaho Home Health and Hospice workers that helped them through this experience. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2010, at the Brentwood LDS Ward Chapel, 2040 Brentwood Drive, with Counselor John Collins officiating.
