Mary Hokanson Simpson, 75, of Idaho Falls, died Monday, January 10, 2011, at her home. She had been under the care of Creekside Hospice. She was born January 7, 1936, in Georgetown, Bear Lake County, Idaho, to Brigham C. Hokanson and Relia Bee Hokanson. Mary grew up in Idaho Falls, Iona, and Ammon. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1954. One July 29, 1954, she married James Alfred Simpson at the family home in Iona and on July 29, 1959, the marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Following their marriage, Mary and Jim moved to Moses Lake, Washington, and in 1979, they moved back to Idaho. They built a new home in Firth where they lived for 20 years. In 2001, they returned to Idaho Falls. She served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Cub Scouts as a den leader for over 10 years and in the Relief Society. Mary and Jim served a Family History mission in Mesa, Arizona in 2000-2001. In Moses Lake, she was a Campfire Leader for 10 years during which time her daughters were members. She enjoyed painting pictures for friends and family members, camping, writing family history stories and genealogy work. Mary was a very loving, compassionate wife, sister, and mother. To all she knew, she was a very inspirational friend and teacher of life to every heart she touched. She is survived by the following: Husband, James A. Simpson of Idaho Falls; Daughters: Linda Diann (Mike) Workman of Moses Lake, Washington, and Debbie Jo (Bob) Boulier of Idaho Falls; Son, Steven James Simpson of Idaho Falls; Sisters: Lucretia (Vaun) Larson of Iona; JoAnn (Albert) Osborn of Ammon; Ruth (Heber) Rasmussen of Ballard, Utah; Emily Topper of Idaho Falls; Ilean Matthews of Rigby; and Judy (John) Cole of Marseilles, Illinois; Brothers: J. B. (Cheryl) Hokanson of Idaho Falls and Jerry (Lanee) Hokanson of Firth; 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Arla H. Cambell, and a cousin, Sherrie Bee Ingram. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Idaho Falls LDS Lincoln Building, 3700 E. Lincoln Rd, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Kent Lott officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
