Obituary

Melveen Shaw Jensen, 85, of Idaho Falls, died January 9, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Melveen was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Tetonia, Idaho to Alma Ray and Florence Pastore Turner Shaw. She grew up in the Teton Valley, and in Jerome, Idaho. She graduated from Jerome High School in 1944. After graduation she attended telegraphy school in Pocatello. She married Jack H. Jensen November 29, 1945, in Logan, Utah. They were sealed December 3, 1957 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Throughout their marriage they lived in Dayton, Idaho; and in Idaho Falls. Melveen worked for the Union Pacific railroad as a telegrapher. She also worked as a telephone operator. Melveen was an office supervisor at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and also was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission to the Family History Centers in Salt Lake City, and in Idaho Falls. She also served in the Primary, the Relief Society, as a Family History Consultant and as a faithful Visiting Teacher. Melveen's hobbies included square dancing, fishing, camping, and genealogy. She was a beautiful seamstress and a wonderful cook. She used to always say, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." Melveen is survived by: son, Ken Jensen of Idaho Falls; daughters: Cathy Preece (Brent) of Idaho Falls, and Susan Nuttall of Shelley; son: Matthew Jensen of Idaho Falls; daughter: Peggy Stockton of Centerville, Utah; sisters: Laverne Coburn of Pocatello, Idaho, and Lorraine Robinson of Talent, OR; brothers: William Shaw of Savannah, GA, and Terry Shaw of Seattle, WA; 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Howell Jensen; her parents; her sisters, Vera and Dorothy; her brother Ronald; and her grandson, Michael. The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to Dr. Margaret Wagner and her staff, as well as the staff on the fourth floor at EIRMC for all the loving care given to their mother. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Woodville LDS Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and from 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
