Mercenia (Cenith) Marie Shaner Galloway, 96, passed away peacefully, due to old age, Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at her home at Lincoln Court. She was under the care of One Source Hospice. She was born October 15, 1918, in Shoshone, Idaho, to Carl and Myrtle Gubler Shaner. She was born during the 1918/1919 flu epidemic but survived due to the good care of her mother and Aunt Grace. Mercenia was born from an ancestry of hard workers and longevity. She was the oldest of four children which gave her the responsibility of helping share the housework and care of her younger siblings. She attended grade school in Rigby and junior high and high school in Ririe, Idaho; she graduated from Ririe High School in 1937. She married Jesse Howard Galloway, June 30, 1939, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on February 6, 1940. Their first child followed soon after on May 4 and seven more children followed. All are living except their third child, Lowell, who died shortly after birth. Mercenia was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, but the one she enjoyed the most was Relief Society President. She served in this calling while in her early 80s. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother extraordinaire. She loved gardening and raising flowers. She worked and supported her husband in all of his entrepreneurial endeavors. Later, in her 60s, she worked in housekeeping at the LDS Hospital that was then on Memorial Drive. It was hard work but she loved the people she worked with and made many friends. Mercenia is survived by seven of her children: Jay (Barbara) Galloway of Safford, AZ; Carl (Karen) Galloway, of Roy, Utah; Linda (Jim) Hagemann of Central Point, Oregon; Dorothy (Dennis) Croft of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Rick (Kathy) Galloway of Gilbert, AZ; Wendy (Keith) Pugmire of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Dwight (Suzanne) Galloway of Bountiful, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Howard Galloway, her son, Lowell, her parents, Carl and Myrtle Shaner, and her brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29th at 11 am at the Idaho Falls 11th Ward , 1235 Juniper building. Her son, Carl Galloway will conduct the funeral. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am just prior to the funeral on June 29th.
