Merle Vincent Daun, 84, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. He was under the care of his family and Alliance Home Health and Hospice.

Merle was born May 4, 1933, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Frank Vincent Daun and Lydia Alvina Schaumleffel Daun. He grew up in Idaho Falls and attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.

After graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served most of his time in Anchorage, Alaska. After his service he went to work in the automotive industry. He later worked for the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory at the Chemical Processing Plant.

He met the love of his life, Delora Murri, and they were married in 1958. They were blessed with two sons, Michael E. Daun and Jeffrey A. Daun. Merle was later baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they were sealed as a family for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.  He also served in many leadership callings within the church.

After retirement, Merle and Delora served two LDS missions at Historical Cove Fort and the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor Center. They spent the last 18 years wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona and spending time with their family and friends. Merle loved snow skiing, water skiing, ATVing and classic cars.

Merle is survived by his wife, Delora of Idaho Falls; sons: Michael E. (Allison) Daun of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jeffrey A. (Ramona) Daun of Heber City, Utah; his brothers: Keith (Pat) Daun, and Frank Daun; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lydia Daun, and brother, Robert Daun.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Woodruff LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 2055 Coronado Street, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018, at Coltin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Interment will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
