Michael Grant Hughes, 74, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Good Samaritan Village. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Michael was born on March 20, 1942, in Boise, Idaho, to Linden Grant and Laverne Elise Cahill Hughes. He grew up in the Boise area and graduated from Borah High School in 1960. He attended Idaho State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Sociology and his welding certification.
On May 1, 1987, he married Eleanor Mulick. They later solemnized their marriage in the Roman Catholic Church on October 8, 1988.
He moved from Boise to Pocatello, in 1972, to attend Idaho State University. While living in Pocatello he worked and enjoyed welding. They recently moved to Idaho Falls to be closer to family.
Michael enjoyed talking politics, reading, watching movies and taking long walks. Together with Eleanor, he enjoyed many trips to Lava Hot Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor C. Hughes, of Idaho Falls, ID; his son, Joseph Hughes, of Boston, MA; his step-daughter, Laurie (Scott) Anderson, of Idaho Falls, ID; his step-son, Andy Swatsenbarg, of Clearfield, UT; his grandchildren: Savannah, Allison, Ashley, Justin, Rachel, Jeremy, Alyssa and Shayla; his brothers: Patrick (Nancy) Hughes, Brian (Angel) Hughes; his sister, Arlene (Andy) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
