Malinda Ann Kern, 19; Michelle Marie Kern, 22; Jack Michael Kern, 3, and Gage Sumner Kern, 9 months, of Ammon, Idaho, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at their home. Malinda Ann "Da" Kern was born October 18, 1991, and Michelle Marie "Shell" Kern was born October 12, 1988, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughters of Michael A. Kern and Roberta M. "Bobby" Shepherd Kern. While Malinda and Michelle were both young, the family moved to Dickeyville, Wisconsin, in 1996. The family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in January 2008. While living in Wisconsin, Malinda was listed on the "Wisconsin Gifted and Talented Registry". Malinda graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2010. At the time of her death, she was working at Staples and Center Partners while attending Eastern Idaho Technical College studying business management and marketing. Malinda's primary concern was getting her fiancé, SPC. Mitchell Reed Nelson, home from Iraq. On April 21, 2011, they celebrated their 2 year anniversary of being together and were planning on marrying on July 14, 2012. "Da" was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt who loved every child but especially Jack and Gage. Michelle worked at Applebees for 6 years. On May 10, 2011, she graduated from Eastern Idaho Technical College with an associate degree in Business Management and Marketing. She was also Eastern Idaho State Representative for the Decca Club. For the past 2 years, she was the state champion for sport marketing management and in April 2011, she qualified and competed on a national level in Orlando, Florida. When she graduated from EITC she was so proud that her "boys" could be there to see "Mom" get her degree. It was a proud moment! Michelle was a loving mom, daughter, and sister. Jack Michael "Jack, Jack" Kern, was born December 16, 2007, in Platteville, Wisconsin, to Michelle M. Kern. Jack always called his Grandpa "Bahm" and always gave the "friend for life" handshake to his Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, and "Da". For a 3 year old, Jack had an in depth knowledge and passion for dinosaurs. He loved to build forts in the living room with his Uncle Mitch. Gage Sumner "Gager" Kern, was born August 8, 2010, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Michelle M. Kern. He was the best looking red headed baby who had a constant smile and a sweet, happy disposition. Gage loved special times with his big, brother, Jack, and his favorite thing to do was to wear Grandpa Bahm's hat. Malinda, Michelle, Jack and Gage are survived by parents and grandparents, Michael and Roberta "Bobby" Kern of Ammon, Idaho; grandparents and great-grandparents, Albert and Betty Kern of Wisconsin, as well as many other relatives in Iowa and Wisconsin. They were preceded in death by grandparents, Gladys M. and Paul C. Shepherd; uncles: Walter McMullen and M.A. Kern, and aunt, Diane M. Stewart; Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church, corner of 17th and Woodruff, in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls before going to the church for the services.
