Obituary

Mildred Viola Brown Walters, 89, of Idaho Falls, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at the home of her daughter. She had been under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.

She was born February 10, 1919 in Stavely, Alberta, Canada to George David Brown and Blanche Smith Brown. She grew up on a farm in Southern Alberta which gave her a wonderful work ethic, that she carried into her late eighties. She learned to ride a horse almost as soon as she could walk and she loved family berry picking outings. In 1937, she graduated from Edmunds High School in Plano, Idaho. She became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States in 1970.

On August 1, 1939, she married Ross Edwin Walters Sr. in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

She worked as a cook at The Riverview and Sacred Heart Hospitals in Idaho Falls.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Young Women and Relief Society organizations, but her favorite calling was teaching the 4 and 5 years olds in the Primary. She loved attending the Temple. She was a member of the LaBelle and Snake River Crossing Camps of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She loved playing with grandbabies, shopping with her sisters, and playing card and board games with her many friends and large extended family. She enjoyed spending summer mornings in her abundant and beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, and tending her precious fruit trees. What she didn't can, she gave away to anyone who happened by.

Mildred was a good and loving mother, wife, and friend; in her later years, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by the following: son, Ross Edwin "Eddy" Walters Jr. of Blackfoot; daughters: Jeanne (Merlin) Stoddard of Rigby; Glenda (Phil) Riesen of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Vicky (Ray) Sayer of Idaho Falls; sisters: Margaret Rigby and Betty (Bert) Hymas both of Rexburg; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross; a daughter, Dianne Hall; 2 sisters, Alta Whittaker and Shirley Ricks; and a brother, Irwin Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Ammon LDS 6th Ward, 2150 Avocet Dr. With Bishop Randy Hurley officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and at the church Saturday morning one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
