Mirt Wallace Beard, 80, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. He was born March 6, 1930, in Driggs, Idaho, to John William and Opal Jackson Beard. He grew up in Teton Valley and graduated from Driggs High School in 1948. He earned a degree from the Quartermaster Food Service School. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War. He earned a Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He married Geneva Underwood in Tetonia, Idaho, on May 8, 1952. He worked for the Park Service in Moose, Wyoming, for Driggs High School, as a timber cutter, bus driver and served in the U.S. Army. He was a Christian and attended Calvary Chapel in Idaho Falls. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, mining and cooking. Mirt had a great sense of humor, a generous heart and he loved his family and friends. He is survived by the following: son, Smokey (Angela) Beard of Lewiston, Idaho daughter, Stormy (Aaron) Beard-Weber of Idaho Falls; step-daughter, Stephanie of Tacoma, Washington; step-son, Ty King of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Gail (Irine) Beard of Idaho Falls; and 5 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marg, Mary, Maxine, Jerine and May; and brothers: Dick. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Calvary Chapel, 53 Depot Street, Driggs, Idaho, with Pastor Rick Brown officiating.
