Obituary

Myron “Mike” Rosenwinkel, 102, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026.

Mike was born on July 10, 1923, in Fairmont, Minnesota, to Adolf and Lillian (Munsterman) Rosenwinkel, and grew up on the family farm with three brothers and four sisters.

On December 7, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served three years in the South Pacific and the Philippines servicing Marine fighter aircraft.

After returning home from the service, he farmed with his brother for a few years. Then, in 1949, he married Juanita Schweiger Lichthardt and started his career as a cabinetmaker.

In 1957, he moved the family to Idaho Falls. He started to work for Johnson Brothers Planing Mill as a cabinetmaker. He worked there for over thirty years until he retired in 1989.

Mike was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church and School. He was involved with its formation in 1957. He truly loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He had a lot of friends over the years to fish with and many fishing trips all over the country.

Mike and Nita enjoyed traveling by car and made many trips through the years, and after retirement, they enjoyed going to Arizona in the winter. Later in his life, Mike would travel with family and friends. It was fun to see if we could find a road in Idaho that he had not been on (and never could).

He was an outstanding craftsman. He loved woodworking. He made many turned bowls, beautiful ironwood carvings, furniture, and cabinets, along with building houses.

In his last few years, he lived at Morningstar Senior Living of Idaho Falls. He loved playing pinochle and having lunch each day with his friends.

He is survived by his children: Larry (Melody) Rosenwinkel of Alpine, WY, Darla (Doug) Schofield of Idaho Falls, and Tom (Teresa) Rosenwinkel of Vancouver, WA; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, of 55 years; three brothers; one sister; stepson, Eric Lichthardt; and son, Charles Rosenwinkel.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to Hope Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church, 2071 12th Street, Idaho Falls. A viewing will be held from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 1st Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, where military honors will be performed. Lunch will be served at Hope Lutheran following the graveside service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
