Obituary

Nick LaVier DeFilippis, 90, of Idaho Falls, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community in Idaho Falls, surrounded by his family. He was under the care of One Source Hospice. Nick LaVier DeFilippis was born August 14, 1921, in Payne, Idaho, eight miles north of Idaho Falls, to Nick Sr. and Arvilla DeFilippis. He had three brothers, Lewis, Earl, and Larry and two sisters, Lucia and Lorraine. Nick joined the United States Army in 1942. He married LaVeda Arlean Fox in 1942 in Idaho Falls. They had four children Elvin, Roy, Dootzie and Tony. They were later divorced. He married Mary Elizabeth Beal on April 30, 1958. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 1, 1975. She brought to the family four children, Wayne Harris, Sharon Harris, Monte Harris and Norma Harris. In 1959, June was born to Nick and Elizabeth. Nick worked for the city of Idaho Falls in various departments and retired from the city after 35 years. He was always a hard worker and never slowed down. After retirement, he plowed gardens for his neighbors and did any other work he could find to do. He and Elizabeth traveled with the Good Sams Club and spent winters in Overland, Nevada, Arizona and Oklahoma. He and Elizabeth were married for 35 years until her death on September 28, 1997. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his sons: Roy (Diane) DeFilippis, and Tony (Glenda) DeFilippis, both of Idaho Falls; daughters: Arlean "Dootzie" Peterson of Rigby and June (Chris) Weise of Idaho Falls; step-children: Wayne (Donna) Harris, Monte (Liz) Harris of Texas, and Norma Harris of Utah; 30 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lewis, Earl and Larry DeFilippis, his sisters: Lucia Blake and Lorraine Downey; his wife, Mary Elizabeth DeFilippis; son, Nick Elvin DeFilippis; step-daughter, Sharon Weeks; son-in-law, Robert E. Peterson; and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Idaho Falls LDS South Stake Center, 2051 S. Emerson, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Terry Orme officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
