Obituary

Norma J. Johnson, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 2nd, 2012 at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Norma was born March 30, 1930, to Knut and Ester Johnson on the family farm in New Sweden, Idaho. Growing up on the family farm, she enjoyed riding horses, milking the cows, and with the money she earned she would go to Shelley to purchase sheet music which she used to teach herself to play the piano. After Norma graduated from Shelley High School, she and her friends, Barbara and Dorothy, set off to San Francisco, California where Norma found a job at an insurance agency. Her favorite past time was attending U.S.O dances. It was at the dances that she met her future husband, Carlton Johnson, and they were married, February 14, 1953. Three boys were born to the couple. First being Kurt on June 20, 1960. Brad was born January 20, 1962, followed by Todd on October 29, 1967. In 1977, leaving family and friends in Concord, California, Norma returned to Idaho Falls with her three sons. Reestablishing her friendships in Idaho Falls, she went to work for Dr. Walber. She later worked at the Idaho Falls Clinic where she retired. In 1985, Norma met Howard Fredricksen of Kilgore. For the next ten years, he became her favorite cowboy and dance partner. They traveled numerous miles to find the hottest dance spots. After some health issues, she spent more time gardening and cooking. In September of 2011, Norma moved into Turtle and Crane Assisted Living where she made numerous friends with residents and staff. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roland, and her sister Svea. She is survived by her three sons, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter all of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and one sister, Greta Rhine, of Boise, Idaho. A private family service will be held on Sunday, October 7th and a celebration of Norma's life will be held at a later date. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortruary.com. Norma's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Turtle and Crane and the volunteers of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
