Obituary

Norris L. Ashment, 67, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 31, 2010, at his home. He was born November 4, 1942, in Afton, Wyoming, to Arlynn M. Ashment and Vella D. Porter Ashment. He grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming, and Idaho Falls. He earned his GED while serving in the Army. He later attended Idaho State University College of Technology where he earned his First Class FCC license. He served with the U.S. Army from Feb. 11, 1960 to Feb. 8, 1963. He married Sharon Dodge and they were later divorced. On Oct. 30, 1987, he married W. Gayle Townsley in Idaho Falls. Besides living in Star Valley and Idaho Falls, he lived in Arizona and Denver, Colorado. Norris worked for Elsworth Brothers, Sears Service Department as the lead service Technician and he owned his own business, Spectrum Electronics. He was the broadcast engineer for several radio stations, maintaining the transmitters. In Germany and Denver, Colorado, he was a musician with the Wildflowers band. In Idaho Falls, he performed with the Good Timers band, with the HTA band at the Covered Wagon in Swan Valley and Ford's in Idaho Falls as well as with many well known local musicians up and down the valley. Norris was a past member of the Eagles Lodge and he enjoyed fishing, RV-ing, 4-wheeling, trips to Oregon, wood crafting, playing the Stratocaster and pedal steel guitar. He loved spending time with his dogs, especially Missy and Tippy, who he got from the Bonneville Humane Society. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Ashment of Idaho Falls; daughters: Julie Collins and Siobhan Ashment both of Idaho Falls; and Joan Rogers (Mike Shumway) of Layton, Utah; step-sons: Robert and John Townsley both of Idaho Falls, Scott Rivera of Livermore, California, Cody Townsley of La Vista, Nebraska; a step-daughter, Victoria (Rob) Callantine of Idaho Falls; sisters: Madge (Max) Jacobsen of Swan Valley and Beula (Jim) Chesak of Idaho Falls; brothers: Blaine (Bonnie) Ashment of Rigby and Theron (Carol) Ashment of Irwin, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Arlynn Ashment and his mother, Vella Ashment Kronhofman; brothers: Keith, Theo, and James Ashment, and a sister, Katherine Wheeler. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, from 7-9:00 p.m. at the mortuary and Friday one hour prior to the services. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bonneville Humane Society, P.O. Box 2763, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83403-2763.
