March 31, 1918 – January 2, 2008
He was born on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918, in a wooden frame two room house located north of Edmunds, Idaho, in the "Egin Bench" area in Fremont County, Idaho. He was the eighth child of Davis Hunter Rydalch and Esther Jane Parkinson Rydalch.
He attended school at Edmunds and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1938. He enjoyed playing basketball during his grade school and high school days and was a star player for the St. Anthony high school team. After high school he worked on the family farm for about three years.
He married Marva Davenport on May 20, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
In 1941, he worked with the Finlayson Construction Company building the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. That fall when the outside work on the temple was done, they moved to Parker, Idaho. He then obtained work with a maintenance crew in Yellowstone Park, working for one summer there. In 1943, he moved the family to a home on a farm in Edmunds. He farmed there until 1966.
During this time Nyal was active in community and political affairs and served as state Farm Bureau president for three years.
After returning from an LDS mission in 1969, he accepted employment with Idaho Farm Bureau on a full time basis as the Director of Commodities. After two years, he moved to Boise as assistant Executive Vice President of Idaho Farm Bureau.
He moved back to Pocatello in 1975 and continued to work for Idaho Farm Bureau until 1983 when he retired.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting and at one time hunted rabbits in the lavas and sand dunes north of Parker, Idaho and sold the pelts for a living. He loved taking pictures with a movie camera starting in the days of 16mm film. He became interested in gemology and followed that hobby for several years.
He served in many callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including; counselor in the Ward Sunday School Presidency, in the Seventies Quorum, in the Bishopric, as a member of the High Council, as a Branch President in Greenock, Scotland, High Priest Quorum leadership, as a Stake Missionary, and many years in the Scouting program. He and Marva served as officiators at the Idaho Falls Temple, served a full time mission for the LDS church in Scotland and a mission in the Atlanta, Georgia, LDS Temple.
He is survived by his wife Marva, their son Richard (Sandra) Rydalch of Idaho Falls, 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a brother, Frank (Margaret) Rydalch and a sister, Paulleen (Ivan) Abegglen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Idaho Falls Brentwood Ward building, 2040 Brentwood Drive, with Bishop Jake Jacobson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
