Obituary

O. Sherwood Johnson, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday Dec. 27, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born April 4, 1924, in Idaho Falls, to Gustaf Henry Johnson and Esther Marie Lanzen. He grew up in Idaho Falls attended Idaho Falls High School until he left at age 17 to join the United States Marine Corp. where he served from Nov.1943 to April 1946. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received while serving on Iwo Jima. After returning home from the service in April, he married Julia Lee McLaughlin, May 8, 1946 in the Idaho Falls L.D S. Temple. Years later he earned his GED, then degrees in Auto mechanics, and Agriculture. He farmed on East River Road with his brothers from 1946 to 1958. He was a crane operator for Goodwin Builders, owned Johnson Excavating, then worked for Heyrend Construction and Teton Crane. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as M-men and Gleaners leader, several Bishoprics, as a Bishop and as a high counselor. His hobbies were horses, fishing, hunting, gardening, his yard, and family. He loved the outdoors and people. A special thanks to One Source Hospice and to dad's beautiful angels Brenda, Yolanda, Tara and Jackie. Thank you! Survivors are his Children: Carollyn Hubicz (Mike) of Orangeville, Ohio, Maureen Daw (David, deceased) of Idaho Falls, Lorraine Crossley (Ken) of Spanish Fork, Utah, Mark (Becky) Johnson, Dale (Trinett) Johnson of Idaho Falls; 19 Grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also a sister Margit Bloomquist and brother Grant. He was preceded in death by his wife Julia, son-in-law David, father and mother, 2 brothers Max, Kurt, 3 Sisters, Sigrid, Ingrid, Estrid. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Idaho Falls 18th Ward LDS Chapel, 1200 Dunbar Dr. with Bishop Shaun Orgill officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Fielding Memorial Park in Idaho Falls where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
