Ora Stoker Whittier, 93, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away, Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
Ora was born January 14, 1924, in Roy, Utah, to Herman Deloss and Minnie Ora Child Stoker, the first of their eight children. She grew up and attended schools in various places in Idaho, graduating from Burley High School in 1942. She also attended Albion Normal School graduating with a teaching certificate in 1944. She taught 1st and 2nd grades in Burley, Idaho and Rockland, Idaho, where she met her future husband.
On September 6, 1950, she married Homer Dee Whittier in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union was born seven children. Homer and Ora raised their family in Rockland, Idaho, Newton, Utah, Moreland, Idaho, Groveland, Idaho, and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Serving them throughout her life.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ora served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission and again with her husband in the California Los Angeles Family History Mission. Her love of family history and genealogy preceded her service and continued after her return. She was a faithful member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and served in that organization in many capacities. All auxiliaries of the Church benefited from her dedication, commitment, and hard work.
Never one to be idle, Ora enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, camping, crocheting, reading, singing, and traveling with her husband. She lovingly sent cards for birthdays and many notes of encouragement to her loved ones.
She is survived by her children: Melanie (Wesley, deceased) Reynolds, of Logan, Utah; Jamee (Kerry) Cooper, of Hurricane, Utah; Dawn (Brad) Doman, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Dee (deceased) (Amy) Whittier, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Raymond (Denise) Whittier, of Enoch, Utah; and Elise (John) Church, of Goshen, Idaho; two brothers: Lynn Stoker and Robert Stoker. She was blessed with 34 grandchildren and 60 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Homer Whittier, her daughter, Alanna Johnson, her son, Dee David Whittier, and son-in-law, Wesley Reynolds, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017, in the Highland Park Ward LDS Chapel, 955 Memorial Drive, Idaho Falls, (next to the LDS Temple) with Brother Tom Griggs officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 1st Street, Idaho Falls, and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., at the church.
