Obituary

Born Patricia Ann Shepard, on December 31, 1934, in Detroit Michigan. She lost her mother at age 4 and her father at age 6. She and her siblings were split up and Patricia was placed in an orphanage and later foster care. She ran away at age 14 and went to live with her sister in California. She married Richard Bigelow at age 16 and they had four children before the couple divorced several years later. She was a single mother for most of her adult life, providing for the family by working as a juvenile correction officer for Snohomish County in Everett, Washington. She later married Dennis Hansford who subsequently passed away in 2013. She then moved to Idaho Falls where she was blessed to be nearer to her children, grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Patricia was particularly blessed to have a loving, devoted granddaughter, Christina Powers, to take care of her for the last 2 years of her life. Patricia dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with family. She was an exceptional cook, an avid reader, and loved hunting for bargains in thrift stores. She loved to laugh and warmed the hearts of her many friends and family members. She deeply loved the lord and was a spiritual encouragement for many people. Mom went home to be with her lord and Savior on December 10, 2014, while residing at Parkwood Meadows surrounded by family. She was survived by her son Richard (Jerri) Bigelow, of Pocatello, Idaho, her son David (Penny) Bigelow, of Rigby, Idaho, her daughter, Lisa (Kayne) Kishiyama, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, her daughter, René Herndon, of Boise, Idaho, her brother Paul Shepard, of Las Vegas, Nevada, 22 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. Patricia leaves a legacy of dedication, self-sacrifice, humbleness, and most importantly great love. We miss you mom. She is preceeded in death by her parents, Walter Shepard and Edith Arlene (Treas), her three brothers, Walter, Bob, and Jerry Shepard. Her sister, Margie Johnson, two infant great grandchildren, Austin Powers and Paige Bigelow. Private family services will be held under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
