Obituary

Paul Joseph Meigio, 56, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed from this earth into his Savior's loving arms on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Paul was born on November 8, 1967, in Philadelphia to Peter Raymond Meigio and Eleanor Mildred Daly. He grew up in Philadelphia where he graduated from Glassboro High School in 1987.

Paul served in the United States Navy from April 1987 to April 1994. He enjoyed operating nuclear submarines and training others in the field. He was stationed in Florida, Hawaii, California, and lastly in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the Idaho National Laboratory Naval Reactor Facility. His awards include a National Defense Service Medal, a Navy Unit Commendation, and a First Good Conduct Medal.

On May 6, 2000, he married his sweetheart Jodette Lynn Doherty in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were blessed with their miracle daughter, Makayla, in September 2006.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Thomas Edison State College, and a master's degree in Business Management/Leadership at the Western Governors University, graduating a year early while working full time and raising a newborn daughter.

Paul was the cofounder and a director of a men's homeless shelter in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a.k.a City of Refuge. He was recognized by Local News 8 for freely giving his time and energy to make a difference through his service to the homeless and given the "8 Who Make A Difference" Award. Paul's family from back east will be donating to the shelter to further Paul's legacy.

He served 8 years as an adult probation officer for Bonneville County working in the Mental Health Court & Drug Court programs. He worked as a Juvenile Justice Project Director for substance abuse programs and underage tobacco/alcohol diversion programs. He received the Line Worker of the Year Award in 2012 from the Seventh District Idaho Juvenile Justice Association for his exemplary work in this position. He served as the District Drug Court Manager for the Seventh Judicial District of Idaho. He received the Liberty Bell Award in 2015 from the Seventh District Bar Association for his outstanding service in this position. He was employed as the Chief Financial Officer for High Country Behavioral Health at the time of his passing.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, being in the mountains, was an avid lifetime fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team, loved playing golf & pickleball, especially with his daughter, solving escape rooms/games with his family, and spending time in God's Word. He had a great sense of humor, a deep love for others, and thrived on helping anyone he could. He excelled at anything he put his mind & heart towards. He was humble, Godly, incredibly intelligent, and a devoted man with integrity. Paul was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.

Paul is survived by his wife Jodie Meigio of Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter Makayla Meigio of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Debbie (Dominic) Caruso of Naples, Florida; and brother; Steven (Cindy) Meigio of Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; Peter Raymond and Eleanor Mildred Daly Meigio, and brother Peter Meigio Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Christ Community Church, 5742 S. 5th West, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83404. A potluck luncheon will be provided afterward. We would kindly ask those attending the service to refrain from using any scented products prior due to his wife's chemical sensitivity. To honor him, we invite you to wear his favorite color blue if attending the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in his honor has been set up at the Idaho Central Credit Union in Idaho Falls, Idaho, under the "Meigio Memorial Fund" that will directly benefit his wife & daughter.
