Phyllis V. Humphrey, 91, of Idaho Falls and Ashton, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011 in Idaho Falls. She was born on February 27, 1920 in Marysville, Idaho, the daughter of Clad and Viola Nelson, the fifth of eleven children. At the age of four, the family moved to the Teton Valley and located in Alta, Wyoming. Shortly after graduating from Teton High School, she moved to Idaho Falls to work. It was in Idaho Falls where she met her husband Harold O. Humphrey. They were married on May 10, 1942 and Harold shipped out to serve his country in the Army. After Harold returned from his service in World War II, they eventually made their home in Ashton. She left Ashton following Harold's death in 1973 and made her home in Idaho Falls where she has since resided. While living in Ashton, she began working for Utah Power and Light and worked in Shelley, Rexburg and Rigby. She retired in 1984, and with retirement she began to fulfill her dreams to travel, play golf, travel some more and enjoy many hours with her family and friends playing games and painting. And then there were the winters in Arizona and Florida with her sisters. As she fulfilled her dreams she found herself with family and friends visiting the places she had read about, Europe, China, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, and many of the Caribbean Islands. One of her favorite trips was a cruise along the coast of Norway and with the final stop the Arctic Circle. She reveled in being with family and the activities that included family members. Her strength and energy was always at its highest when she was with her family. Phyllis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by her daughter Pat Galbraith (Kirk), her two sons Rich (Betsy) and Chris (Leslie); 5 grandchildren: Channing, Paige, Hilary, Claire and Margit; 7 great grandchildren; sisters: Helen Kunz, Bonnie Jensen; 2 brothers: Rex Nelson and Arlo Nelson; and a brother-in-law, Neil Humphrey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold; 2 brothers: Wells and Guy, and 3 sisters: Nola, Ella and Leona. Phyllis and her children will be eternally thankful for the many hours of selfless service provided by her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews during her years of living in Idaho Falls. Your love and kindness is and has been a testimony to all family members. Funeral services will held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the Ammon LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 1100 S. Tiebreaker Dr. with Bishop Randy Lords officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Internment will follow at the Pineview Cemetery in Ashton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch, 478 Shoup Ave., Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402.
