Obituary

Phyllis Orene Stallings, 72 of Idaho Falls, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at her home surrounded by the family she loved. She was blessed to know Jesus as her personal savior and has gone home to be with Him, her father, her brother, and her grandson. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Phyllis was born on August 25, 1941 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Orsin Gilbert McRill and Martha Orene Garlock. As a first child and first grandchild on both sides, she was surrounded with love. She attended Washington Elementary, Twin Falls Junior High, and Twin Falls High School. She spent most of her adult life living in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She had been a single mother until she met her husband Adrian, and worked hard to support her children and provide a safe and secure home for them. She retired from EG&G where she worked with security clearances. She married Adrian Roy Stallings on December 10, 1971. They were married for 42 years. She has four children, Danny Drips, Donna Powers, Phil Seldon, and Jennifer Byington. Her greatest loves were of family, family camping, golfing with her husband Adrian and with her many golf friends, her volunteer work with Tautphaus Park Zoo, and her many rich friendships. On May 3, 2014, Phyllis posted, "I love my family." Phyllis loved Adrian and her family. She loved the many phone calls from Adrian when he was on the road and loved it when he was at home. She enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with family or to be with them at one of their events. There were so many family dinners and get-togethers, both planned and spontaneous. There were many family camping adventures, most in Island Park. All of Phyllis's family reunions involved camping. What she loved most were the sounds of birds and a chance to sit and talk with family. In honor of their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary, her daughters Donna and Jennifer arranged a surprise family reunion. Phyllis and Adrian went on what they thought would be a quiet camping trip with just Jennifer and her family. One by one family members arrived from Idaho, Arizona, Washington and Iowa. That night around the camp fire, the children and family shared their memories of the couple. The surprise continued the next day when they were joined by friends for a large picnic celebration. Phyllis was very actively involved with her grandchildren. She attended their events and helped to get them to activities. She loved being there for her grandchildren and was very excited about the newest great grandchild, Riley. She and Adrian enjoyed their annual February trips to Phoenix to visit her daughter, Donna and the Arizona grandchildren and great grandchildren. She considered Phoenix to be her second home. The visits were full of family activities, golfing and a catching spring training baseball game or two. Golfing was something Phyllis learned in order to spend time with Adrian, who had taken up golf. For several years they both enjoyed being members of a campground/golf course near Ashton. For Phyllis, the combination of camping and golf was wonderful. When she retired, she joined a women's golf league in Idaho Falls and made many wonderful friends. What she loved the most was the sound of birds on the golf course in the morning hours. After retirement she became a Docent at the Tautphaus Park Zoo. She loved working with the animals and shared many pictures of new Zoo additions on her Facebook. She loved walking the New Guinea Singing Dogs, Zeus and Papua around the zoo. She had such a way with dogs especially the most timid, Lexie, and loved her best. On February 16, 2014 Phyllis posted on Facebook, "Best part of my day was walking the NDSDs over at the Zoo. I absolutely love Kubu and Lexi." Phyllis loved her own three Schnauzers dearly. Gus and Bailey were her original pair. Gus died several years ago and Phyllis grieved his loss deeply. Soon she and Adrian adopted Mattie as company for Bailey. Many happy hours were spent by Phyllis and Adrian camping with the dogs and evenings at home with the dogs on their laps. Phyllis lovingly watched over her mother, Martha McRill, a resident at Lincoln Court Assisted Living, for the last four years. She enjoyed the many visits of her sisters, Ann and Mary Lou to Idaho Falls. Sister time was cherished by all three. Last October both Mary Lou and Phyllis visited Ann in Seattle, another cherished memory. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Adrian Stallings of Idaho Falls; her children, Danny Drips of Idaho Falls, Donna Powers and her husband Butch of Phoenix, Arizona, Phil Seldon of Idaho Falls, and Jennifer Byington and her husband Kerry of Idaho Falls; her mother, Martha McRill of Idaho Falls; her sisters, Mary Lou Nosco of Earlham, Iowa and Ann McRill of Seattle, Washington; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert McRill, her brother Michael Kenneth Vernon and her grandson, Thomas Howard Lubbers. Private family services will be held at a later date.
