Obituary

Ray Elijah Quinton, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 7, 2009, at his home. He was under the care of Creekside Hospice.

He was born May 9, 1929, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to George Elijah Quinton and Florence Elizabeth Walters Quinton. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls.

On September 15, 1948, he married Bernadene Lords in Ashton, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on January 26, 1955. Bernadene passed away February 20, 2009.

Ray worked as a painter, builder, and a baker. He owned and operated bakeries in Rexburg and Twin Falls and managed bakeries for Albertsons and Buttries in Idaho Falls.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he had served in many callings including High Priest Group leadership, Elder's Quorum Presidency, as a scout leader, Young Men's President, teacher, temple worker and stake financial clerk. Along with his wife, he served a mission to Calgary Alberta Canada.

Ray was a singer and guitarist for the Range Rider's Western dance band where he played for dances throughout southeastern Idaho along with Jerry Cottrell and Wes Hudman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taxidermy, and whittling.

Ray taught his family to love God and all He created, family, freedom and country.

He is survived by the following: daughters: Sharon (Calvin) Tuckett of Rexburg; Linda "Susan" Moses of Springville, Utah; and Tracey Joanne (Lionel D., deceased) Hawkins of Arimo; a son, Michael Steven (Cindy) Quinton of Slana, Alaska; a sister, Barbara (Rullen) Paulsen of Ammon; 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandson, Shaston Hampton; a great-granddaughter, Melissa Tuckett; and the following siblings: Verla Beal, Reva Walker, Leora Haslam, and Dean Quinton.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Coltman LDS First Ward Chapel, 12448 N. 5 E. with Bishop Larry Clayton officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls and at the church one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
