Raymond Leo Barrera, 64, of Idaho Falls, passed on a celebratory date, Saturday, July 4, 2026, a day that reflects the spirit of freedom and remembrance, fitting for a life lived in his own unique way.

We celebrate the life of our brother, Raymond Barrera a son, a brother, an uncle, a partner, a friend, and a man whose greatest gift was simply being himself. Raymond was born on August 21, 1961, to Leo and Jennie Barrera, and grew up in Covina in the San Gabriel Valley alongside his sisters, Catherine and Georgina. Those were years filled with family, laughter, and memories that stayed with him throughout his life.

Later, Raymond found a home in Idaho Falls, a place whose slower pace and natural beauty suited him well. He loved the outdoors and found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Raymond’s life wasn’t measured by titles, wealth, or accomplishments. He worked in the alarm industry for years but wasn’t driven by ambition or career success. The people who loved him didn’t measure him that way. They measured him by his generous heart, his easy smile, his sense of humor, and the joy he brought into a room. Music was one of Raymond’s greatest passions. Whether he was playing his guitar or accordion, music came naturally to him. He loved classic rock, especially The Beatles and Alice Cooper and one of his happiest places was playing with our family band, It’s Just Us. Those jam sessions weren’t about perfection; they were about family, laughter, and making memories together. Those are moments we will treasure forever. When he wasn’t making music, Raymond loved casting a fishing line, spending time outdoors, riding his bicycle, and enjoying the quiet moments that many people overlook. He found contentment in life’s simpler pleasures. 

Anyone who knew Raymond also knew how much he loved his faithful dog, Festus. Their companionship was a reminder of Raymond’s gentle heart and his ability to love deeply. Most importantly, Raymond loved his family. He shared many years with his beloved girlfriend, Brenda Lumsden, and embraced her family as his own. He loved Brandi like a daughter and treasured his time with Rylen, who brought him tremendous happiness. 

Raymond is survived by his beloved girlfriend, Brenda Lumsden; his stepdaughter, Brandi, and her son, Rylen. He is also survived by his sisters, Catherine Caldera and Georgina Gracia-Medrano; his brothers-in-law, Michael Caldera and Jose Gracia-Medrano; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Rachel Caldera, Domenico Gracia-Medrano, and Daniel Gracia-Medrano. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly. 

Like all of us, Raymond had struggles. His life included hardships and mistakes, but none of those define the whole of a person. What endures is the love he gave, the laughter he shared, the music he played, and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. In the end, perhaps that is what matters most. Not how much we accumulate, but how we make people feel. Raymond made us laugh. He reminded us to slow down. He taught us that happiness can be found in a guitar, a fishing pole, a loyal dog, and the people we love. 

Though our hearts are heavy today, we can also be grateful. Grateful that his suffering has ended. Grateful for every song he played, every laugh we shared, every fishing story, every family gathering, and every memory that now becomes part of our own story. We will miss hearing his guitar. We will miss his smile. We will miss his laugh. But we will carry his music and our love for him with us always. 

Rest peacefully, Raymond. You will forever remain in our hearts, and every time we hear a Beatles song, pick up a fishing rod, or gather together to make music as a family, a part of you will be there with us. We love you. We always will.
