IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond
Hill
February 13, 1930 – October 24, 2025
With Deep Respect and Gratitude, we celebrate that Raymond Hill was "Called Home" on October 24, 2025, after 95 years of service and devotion to the Lord, his family, and community.
Raymond was born in Ucon, Idaho, on February 13, 1930, the fifth of six children of Samuel A. Hill and Priscilla Bell Phillip. The Family Farm and Mechanic Garage taught them hard work and a way to bless and serve many in the community who struggled during the long, tough years of the Great Depression and World War II. During World War II, most of the young men were off to war. However, at 15, Raymond had grown tall enough to appear to be of college age, and being short of eligible young men, his sisters would often take him to the weekly campus dances so they had a dance partner (much to the envy of the other girls). Needless to say, Raymond became a very good ballroom dancer.
As was the custom of the day, if you were a really good student in school, they would just move you up a grade to make the work more challenging. In fourth grade, they bumped Raymond up a grade, which got him into college a year earlier and on a church mission before the Korean War started. He enjoyed his two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission, serving among many of the Great Indian Tribes in Oklahoma and Missouri. The Army drafted him as soon as he returned home. His mechanical skills, learned in the Family Garage, and his quick mind earned him the special assignment to learn and repair the new helicopters just developed for the Korean War. It's interesting that his three sons ended up serving missions in areas he trained and was deployed to: Baltimore, Japan, and Korea.
In early January, on his second day back from Korea, his best friend, Al Peterson, set him up on a blind date with Ila Weekes of Sunnydell, Idaho, who worked in Idaho Falls as a telephone operator for Mountain States Telephone Company. By the end of February, he knew she was his "Forever Sweetie". He married our angel mom on May 27, 1954, in the Idaho Falls Temple. After more Schooling at Utah State, Raymond's dad made arrangements for him to come back home to Ucon and buy the Mechanic Shop and raise his family in a community that helped us thrive in living a gospel centered life - for which we are forever grateful. He spent his whole life quietly helping those in need, continuing to serve wherever asked, singing in choirs and quartets, teaching, Scout Master (our favorite), High Council, Bishop, County Planning and Zoning, City Council, Mayor, and lots of family history and temple work.
His descendants: 5 Children, R. Val (Noni) Hill of West Jordan, Utah, Lyle (Julie) Hill of Ucon, Diane (Ray) Whitaker of Kanosh, Utah, Danny (Debi) Hill of Henderson, Nevada, Maria Jensen - Deceased 2023
31 Grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren.
He now continues the "Good Work" on the other side with his parents and siblings: Leon, Ruth, Joseph, Ann, and Roy; and his sweet wife Ila, and many of her amazing kinfolk.
