Reed Abel Munns, 93, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, longtime resident of Bear River City, Utah, died at the home of his daughter on December 15, 2010, in Idaho Falls, from natural age related causes. He was born on June 2, 1917, in Garland, Utah, to Archie Austin and Charlotte Ann Abel Munns. He was the oldest son in a family of 12 children, 8 boys and 4 girls. He grew up in Elwood, Utah, and graduated from Bear River High School in 1925. He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Education. He joined the United States Army in 1942 during World War II and served in France in the Quarter Master Corps. He worked at the Defense Depot in Ogden for 32 years. He married Ruth Ellen Stacey in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 24, 1942. After his military service, Reed lived at Ogden Terrace and then moved to Bear River City. He lived there from 1948 to January 2010, when they moved to Idaho Falls to live with his daughter and her husband because of health concerns. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church positions including ward clerk, stake High Councilor. His last calling was serving as stake historian in the North Box Elder LDS Stake at the age of 90. He served a mission in the Kentucky Louisville Mission from 1987-1988 with his wife. He enjoyed computers, and was an expert gardener. Reed was dedicated to church service and loved and enjoyed being with his family. He was noted for his work ethic and was a great problem solver. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellen Stacey Munns of Idaho Falls, Idaho daughter, Carolyn (Fred) Jensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Jerry (Rosemary) Munns of Layton, Utah; son, Ronald (Marie) Munns of Idaho Falls, Idaho daughter, Marilyn (Eric) Rasmussen of Brigham City, Utah; daughter-in-law, Faith (deceased husband, Alan) Munns of Spokane, Washington; brothers: Shelley (Joyce) Munns of Honeyville, Utah; Paul (Jane) Munns of Elwood, Utah; Charles "Orlin" (Opalgene) Munns of California; sisters: Charlotte (Garth) Parkinson of Brigham City, Utah; Mary (Frank) Gardner of Bear River City, Utah 39 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Alan Reed Munns, parents and brothers, Lysle Munns, Farrell Munns, Rohl Munns, and James Munns; sisters, Edna Grandy, and Ruth Bingham. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho with Bishop's Counselor Matt Darrington officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 17, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, and from 8:30-9:15 before the services on Saturday. A visitation will also be held at the Bear River City LDS Church from 2:00 p.m. -3:30 p.m. Saturday December 18, 2010. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday December 18, 2010 in the Bear River City Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard immediately following the services in Idaho Falls.
