Rex Leavitt Decker had the best Father's Day ever. He returned to his Heavenly Father and his sweetheart early June 20, 2010. He passed away peacefully at the Idaho Falls Care and Rehabilitation Center in Idaho Falls at the age of 94. He was the son of Roy and Charlotte Brown Decker. Dad was born August 6, 1915 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His family moved to Ogden, UT where he attended school and graduated from Weber Jr. College in 1935. Dad worked hard at a variety of jobs to pay for his college. Rex met Bernice West in the eighth grade. They were married October 3, 1935 in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. He received a degree in forestry from Utah State University. After their first daughter, Sharon was born, they moved to a small cabin at Signal Mountain in Yellowstone Park where Rex worked as a forest ranger. His first work detail was to prepare the ground and plant trees in the Park Square in Jackson Hole, WY after the elk antler arches had been installed. He and Bernice spent the next five years at Signal Mountain Ranger Station. When WWII started they moved back to Ogden where Dad worked at Hill Air Force Base surveying for runways and buildings. After the war, dad became partners in Topper's Bakery in Ogden. While living in Ogden they added three boys to the family, Brent, Quinn and Paul. Dad had an opportunity to buy his own bakery in Evanston, WY and the family lived there for several years. They added their second daughter, Ruth to the family. Dad sold the bakery and began working for Beneficial Life Ins. Co. The family eventually moved to Salt Lake City where dad continued to work for Beneficial Life Ins. Company. In 1959 he was asked to be the Agency Manager for South Eastern Idaho which resulted in the family moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dad was a businessman with a fishing pole in his brief case. He took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren to fish and camp in Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. With the help of family and friends, dad built a cabin in the Sheep Creek Canyon near Palisades Reservoir. Dad was active in the LDS Church. He served as Ward Clerk and Ward and Stake Sunday School President. He and mom served a mission in the Rochester, New York Mission at the Peter Whitmer Farm Visitor Center, where they had the privilege of hosting President Kimball during the LDS church sesquicentennial. Dad was active in scouting and served as the Vice President and treasurer of the Teton Peaks Council. He participated in many scouting activities and Jamborees, including an International Jamboree in northern Idaho in 1969. Dad was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice.
