He was born February 5, 1934, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Emil and Lillian Carlson. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School with scholarships in football and baseball. After graduating from high school, he married Margie Carlson. They had five children.
He followed his father into the plastering business, and his two sons and grandsons followed him into the family business. He was a skilled tradesman in all aspects. Dick was a hard worker and welcomed any challenge.
His hobbies included gardening, fishing, camping and woodworking. He loved anything that sprouted green, especially is tomatoes. He loved the Salmon River and spending time with his kids fishing.
He loved his family, friends and dogs. In the past few years of his life, he cherished his three faithful companions, Dallas, Emmy Lou and Savanah. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by Margie Carlson (divorced); his five children, Jeff Carlson, Leslie (Jim Newman) Carlson, Greg (Becky) Carlson, Amber (Barry White) Teter and Allen (Brandy) Carlson. His brothers and sisters, Don (Beth) Carlson, Larry (Connie) Carlson and Gene (Biff) Higgins. He loved his lifelong sweetheart, Jannie Bertoch. His stepchildren included Michael (Val) Bertoch, Debbie (Doug) Watts and Susie (Terry) Ostler. He had 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lillian Carlson.
The family will meet with friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 4th, 2009, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street in Idaho Falls. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to the Idaho Falls Humane Society.
