IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Edward
Dickinson
October 6, 1927 – May 12, 2016
Richard Edward (Dick) Dickinson, 88, was born October 6, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, to Harold Carlos Dickinson and Mary Elizabeth Hambly Dickinson. He passed on May 12, 2016, at home with his loving wife, Dorothy, by his side.
Dick joined the Navy on his seventeenth birthday. Serving for twenty years he retired at the young age of thirty eight. While stationed in Boston he met the love of his life Anna Dorothea Wenzel. They were married 67 years. To that union three children were born Richard Edward Jr., Linda Ann and Robert Charles.
In his Navy career he spent time on the USS Providence, USS Malloy, USS Roosevelt, USS Fulton and USS Hull putting that ship into commission. He was the plank owner of the USS Providence and was awarded the after mast American flag in 1944. Graduating top of his class at the nuclear reactor site in Idaho Falls, he was asked to train new recruits.
After retiring from the Navy he settled his family in Idaho Falls. He went to work for New York Life for the next fourteen years making the million dollar round table three years in a row. Dick loved Baseball watching, playing and coaching Babe Ruth. He was a devoted Brooklyn Dodger fan. His true passion was golf; he even bought a winter home in Arizona so he could golf year round. He and Dorothy had a fabulous life traveling to Hawaii every year with friends in their younger days. As a lifetime member of the Elks he and his buddies would enjoy a cold drink after a game of golf at Pinecrest.
Dick is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Richard (Shannon), son Bob (Marie), seven grandchildren, twenty-one great grand children with one on the way, two great great-grandsons and his brother Harold. He was preceded in death by parents and his daughter, Linda Ann.
The family would like to thank One Source Home Health and Hospice. A special thanks to Vinnie and Aukia for their loving care of Dick the past several years.
