He was born December 15, 1956, in Pocatello, Idaho, to James Robert and Patricia Packer Henderson. His father was killed in a car accident two months before he was born, and he was raised by his mother and step-father, Chester Hammer.
He grew up in Pocatello, South Dakota and Salt Lake City. He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1974. He completed a college course in small engine repair.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed fishing, model building, and painting pictures.
Ricky was in a car accident in 1975, and has suffered continually, but always had a smile and good word for everyone; he was a very happy person.
Survivors include: step-parents, Chester and Wilda Hammer of Idaho Falls; 2 half-brothers, Edward Sutton of Salt Lake City, and Raymond Short of Parkin, Arkansas; 3 half-sisters, Stephanie Taylor of Colt, Arkansas, JoAnne Holt of Wynne, Arkansas, and Audra Smith, St. George, Utah; 3 step-brothers, John Hammer of Hurricane, Utah, Wallace Haskett of Pocatello, Dennis Haskett of Shelley; 3 step-sisters, Marcia Roberts of Idaho Falls, Julia Evans of Idaho Falls, and Lynda Scott of Nampa, ID.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Joseph Robert Henderson and a step-brother, Roger Hammer.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Preston City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary in Idaho Falls. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
