Obituary

Richard Lee Poole, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at his home in Ammon, Idaho with his wife of 63 years and several of his family members at his side. He was born in Rigby, Idaho to Cecil R. Poole and Vera Alice Barnes. He grew up on a farm in Menan, Idaho and graduated from Rigby High School in 1955.

On May 31, 1957, married Ruth Poormon in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with four sons and one daughter: Rick Lee Poole (Kendra Wade) Pocatello, Idaho, Ryan Dee Poole (Dianne Hunting) Idaho Falls, Idaho, Randy C. Poole (Sharee Clayton) Idaho Falls, Idaho, Roxanna Adamson (Bartt) Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Russell Allen Poole (Suzanne Ellis) Denver, Colorado.

He continued to farm for a short time after marriage. He then went to work for Bonded Produce in Idaho Falls. He also worked for Old Faithful Beverage for 32 years, before retiring.

After his retirement, he became the Apartment Manager for Shadow Canyon Apartments. When he and Ruth moved back to Menan he became the Water Master for the Long Island Canal Co. They moved to Ammon, Idaho in 2010 and he then worked part-time for Enterprise Car Rental.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions throughout his life including, Counselor in four Bishoprics, Executive Secretary, High Councilman at BYU, Idaho, High Priest Group Leader and served several years as a dedicated Scoutmaster. He was most proud of his scout troop who all received their Eagle Scout Awards. They were honored by having their picture in the Church News.

He loved to camp, hunt, and fish with his family. His greatest love was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They spent many hours on the farm in Menan having fun with their Grandpa. He taught several of his grandchildren to drive in his old pick-up that they named 'Old Yeller'. His grandchildren still think of their times on the farm with him as their favorite memories. He was a kind, patient, and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He had a ready smile for everyone he met.

He is survived by his spouse; his children; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; his sister, Diana Steffler (Dennis) Moses Lake, Washington; brother, Harold Dee Poole, Menan, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil R. and Vera Poole; two brothers: Larry Poole and Daryl Poole; and a great-grandson, Eli Poole.
