Richard D. "Dick" Sorensen, 86, of Idaho Falls died May 19, 2008, at his home. He had been under the care of Creekside Home Health & Hospice.
He was born October 24, 1921, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Marion and Lucille Harper Sorensen. He attended elementary school at Basalt and graduated from Shelly High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant in Germany. After the war he was an army recruiter in Idaho Falls and later recalled to serve in the Korean Conflict.
On June 21, 1947, he married Angy Gloder in Idaho Falls. He owned and operated a farm in Ucon and worked for the U.S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier for 33 years, retiring in 1981. They spent winters for 15 years in Pahrump, Nevada.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a scout master, a coach for a little league baseball team, a member of the Elks, and Eagles Lodges.
He enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, traveling, boating, camping and family get get-togethers and especially time spent with his grandchildren, Nick and Roy Sorensen of Reno. Survivors include the following: his wife Angy Sorensen, of Idaho Falls; children: Lynn (Jan) Sorensen of Reno Nevada; Terry (Donna) Sorensen of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Kevin Sorensen of Idaho Falls; 2 grandchildren; sister, Zola (LaVere) Johns of Blackfoot; and a brother, Gary Sorensen of Nampa Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Marion, J. Dean, Darrel, Marvin and a sister, LaRae.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2008, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Randy Hoffman of the Ammon LDS 14th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
