Richard Eugene Whiteside, 79, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died October 9, 2005, at his home in Idaho Falls from cancer. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
He was born January 29, 1926, in Texon, Texas, to Maurice Eugene and Lola Christine Rone Whiteside. He grew up on a ranch in Texon, Texas, and attended schools in Texas. Richard was a certified cattle breeder, insurance salesman, and held his pilots licence. He attended Texas A&M University. He served in the United States Navy.
He married Jane Smith. They were later divorced. He married Qwen McCoy. They were later divorced. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Fay Urlab. They were later divorced.
He worked in Texas and Wyoming in the ranching business. He worked in Colorado, Idaho Falls, and Las Vegas as a salesman for National Federation of Independent Business and Insurance.
He was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Richard was a member of the Citizens Watch Patrol, member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Alumni member for the Idaho Falls Police Department, and crossing guard for Longfellow Elementary for five years. He received the Volunteer of the year award in 2003 from the City of Idaho Falls.
He loved fishing, ranching, rodeo, camping, photography, his computer, life, learning, animals; he was a true gentleman and all who loved him will miss him dearly.
Survivors include: son, Randy Whiteside of Sea Port, Texas son, J.D. Whiteside of Kansas City, Missouri daughter, Ann Whiteside of Las Vegas, Nevada son, Cody Whiteside, of Colorado daughter, Stacey Whiteside of Colorado sister, Pat Whiteside of Fort Worth, Texas sister, Ann Whiteside of Fort Worth, Texas
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2005, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 270 N. Placer, with Father Bruce Henney officiating. Burial will be at Fielding Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street.
