Obituary

Robert Ekins Elliott, born March 11, 1940, to Robert L. and Ruth Ekins Elliott in Provo, Utah, passed away Tuesday November 5, 2013, of cancer. Bob grew up working on his grandparent's fruit farm in Provo. When he was 13 years old his family moved to Heber City, Utah, where he worked hard on his family's farm. When he was 15, he started playing bass fiddle and the guitar with a bunch of "old dudes". He loved playing jazz and country music and played many years in different bands. After graduating from Wasatch High School in Heber City, he attended BYU and then joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Alaska for basic training and when he wasn't on duty he was salmon fishing. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Heber City and married Kay Sundblom. They were the proud parents of Danny, Kristina, and Bobbie Dawn; they later divorced but remained friends. In 1977, Bob married JohnnieSue Lee. Together they added Gretchen, Jordan, and Laramie. In 1995, Bob and JohnnieSue were sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls temple. Bob went to work for Utah Power and Light Company. His good work ethic led him to many promotions and opportunities to advance in the company. He retired in 1991, but he soon found himself back in the "power business" building sub stations and installing windmills. Service to others was the cornerstone of Bob's life. Whether it is family, friends, neighbors, or strangers, he was always ready and willing to lend a hand and serve others. For several years he was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge in Idaho Falls. He also enjoyed working with Boy Scouts, both the young men and the other adult leaders; he loved teaching youth Sunday school and Priesthood classes. But his greatest joy in serving was just to be there, to quietly help with what he could whenever he could. Hunting, fishing, puttering, and working in their yard kept Bob busy. But his greatest joy was his family. He had a special relationship with each of his children and grandchildren and loved them all so much. He is survived by his wife, JohnnieSue Elliott of Shelley; children: Danny (Carla) Elliott ; Bobbie Dawn (Kent) Ivie of Shelley. Kristina Elliott (Scott Davis) of Heber City, Utah; Gretchen Elliott (Roger Dodge) of Idaho Falls; Jordan Elliott of Bend Oregon; Laramie (Spencer) Pancheri of Rigby; Brothers: Ray (Cathy) Elliott, Logan, Utah; Larry (Eilidh) Elliott of Midway, Utah; Sister, Diane (Hylton) Haueter of Midway, Utah; sister-in-law, Vicki (Wayne) Grover of Rexburg, Idaho; 20 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Jameston LDS Church, 1101 E. 1250 N., Shelley. The family will visit with friends Friday evening, November 8, 2013, from 6-7:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service both at the church.
