Obituary

Robert (Bob) Irvin Jones, 83, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones of Asbestosis on the evening of December 7, 2016. He was under the care of Nuclear Care Partners and Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

Bob was born May 20, 1933 in Rigby, Idaho, the oldest of three children born to Lyndon D. Jones and Erma Lucille Heaps Jones.  Bob grew up in Idaho Falls where his father was a type setter for The Post Register.  Bob attended Idaho Falls High School where he graduated in 1951. During high school, he played American Legend baseball as the third baseman.

The day after his 18th birthday, Bob and 12 of his buddies joined the United States Navy. He served 2 tours of duty in the Pacific during the Korean War on a sea plane tender.  Between Pacific tours Bob married his high school sweetheart, LaVina Olson, on August 29, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Once discharged, he attended electronic school in Kansas City, Missouri.  Bob and LaVina have lived in Idaho Falls for most of their married life where they raised three children.  Bob was employed at the INL for 35 years.

Bob was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In his younger days, Bob loved to hunt.  In his later years, he was an avid fly fisherman.  Bob spent many summers on the Henry's Fork in Island Park, Idaho.  He would spend his winters building fly rods and tying thousands and thousands of flies. It was on the Henry's Fork where he made several lifelong friends from every corner of the world.

Bob loved dogs; he raised and trained hunting dogs for himself and friends.

He is survived by his wife, LaVina of 64 years; two sons: Bob (Earlene) Jones and Steven (Karrie) Jones; a daughter Lisa (Brian) Waldrop; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Fife.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bret; his parents and a younger brother, John.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by Nuclear Care Partners and Aspen Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at the Tie Breaker LDS Church, 1100 Tie Breaker Dr., Ammon, Idaho.
